Midweek Affair with Pioneers Tuesday for Baseball

The University of Hartford baseball team will play host to Sacred Heart on Tuesday afternoon at Fiondella Field in a make-up for a game that was cancelled due to inclement weather early in the season. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Hawks are on a roll, winning nine of their last 10 contests, including a sweep of Army in a Saturday doubleheader last weekend. The Hawks have leapfrogged Stony Brook for second place in the America East heading into the final two regular-season series, and Hartford has won six consecutive home games as well.

Hartford continues to get offensive contributions from up and down the lineup, as T.J. Ward is coming off a 6-for-9 week, including a 5-for-5 performance with three runs in the doubleheader sweep of the Black Knights. Ben Bengtson is another who had a standout week, going 5-for-9 with six runs scored. Bengtson and Ward are two of seven Hawks regulars with an average of .313 or better on the year, as Hartford's collective .299 batting average leads the America East and is 43rd in the nation.

The Pioneers bring a 26-19 record into Tuesday's matchup after a four-game weekend sweep of Mount St. Mary's in New Britain. Sacred Heart has gone 17-6 in Northeast Conference play on the year. SHU has a .267 batting average on offense, with Victor Sorrento's .329 leading the way. The Pioneers have been very strong on the mound, sporting a 3.82 ERA as a squad.

Live stats and video for Tuesday's game will be available on HartfordHawks.com, and updates will be provided throughout the game on Twitter (@HartfordBASE).
