WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — In the latest of many early-season schedule changes for the University of Hartford baseball team, the Hawks' America East Conference opener at Stony Brook has been moved for the second time in as many days. The Hawks' weekend series against Stony Brook will now begin on Friday, March 24, with a doubleheader that is slated to begin at noon. The finale between the Hawks (2-9, 0-0 America East) and Stony Brook (6-12, 0-0) will now he held Saturday at noon.
The doubleheader was moved from Saturday to Friday due to inclement weather predicted for Long Island on Sunday afternoon, the teams agreed to begin the series on Friday.
Hartford was scheduled to host conference foe Binghamton this past weekend, but the entire series was lost due to unplayable field conditions following last week's winter storm. The Hawks' home opener against Bryant, which Hartford won 8-7 on Tuesday, was also moved up a day due to weather conditions.
Hartford sophomore Billy DeVito (1-1, 7.71 ERA) will get the start in Friday's opener against Stony Brook right-hander Bret Clarke (0-2, 11.39 ERA), followed by a matchup between Hawks junior righty
David Drouin (0-2, 13.50 ERA) and Stony Brook's Sam Turcotte (0-1, 6.50 ERA). Saturday's finale will pit
John Mormile (0-0, 9.53 ERA) against Seawolves righty Brian Herrmann (1-2, 2.25 ERA).
