MacKinnon Named First Team Academic All-American

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Former University of Hartford baseball and men's soccer player David MacKinnon was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Baseball team, the organization announced Friday. It is the second consecutive Academic All-America honor for MacKinnon, who had been named to the Academic All-District 1 team in May.

MacKinnon graduated this past month with a degree in accounting from the Barney School of Business, finishing his academic career with a 3.87 cumulative GPA. He
earned President's List (3.75+ GPA) distinction six times, was named to the Dean's List once and earned America East Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition in each of his eight semesters at Hartford.

"I can't think of anyone that better exemplifies the term student-athlete," Hartford head baseball coach Justin Blood said. "Dave has competed at a very high level in two Division I sports while achieving at an even higher level in the classroom. We're extremely proud of Dave and very happy to see him honored for his achievements."

An Easton, Mass., native, MacKinnon joins Hartford alumna Katharina Linder (women's soccer, 2001 and 2002) as the only Hawks to earn First Team recognition in multiple years. Only one other Hawk, Alon Lubesky (men's soccer 2003), has ever been named to the Academic All-America First Team.

MacKinnon is the only America East baseball player to ever earn First Team honors, a feat he has now accomplished twice.

MacKinnon was selected as the 2016 America East Baseball Player of the Year, the 2016 America East Male Athlete of the Year and the 2015-16 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He also earned all-conference recognition during each of his four seasons with the baseball program, including All-Conference First Team honors as a junior and senior.

During his final season in a Hawks uniform, MacKinnon was the only Hawk to start in all 50 games. He posted a .327 batting average, leading the team in hits (68) and runs scored (44).

MacKinnon finished his career as the program's all-time leader in hits (269), runs (155) and putouts (1,508). He ranks second in team history in games played (196), at-bats (750), doubles (51) and fielding percentages (.990) and ranks among the all-time top-five in total bases (343; third), walks (82; fifth) and batting average (.359; fifth).
