WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team named senior
Robert Carmody team captain for the 2020 season, head coach
Justin Blood announced on Wednesday.
"We will have one captain this spring and Rob is very deserving of the honor," commented Blood. "He has gone about his business the right way for more than three years now and provides great energy, works hard, has improved his game and tries to positively affect his teammates. If my memory serves me well, Rob is our first ever unanimous captain."
Carmody, a Canton, Mass., native, finished the 2019 season ranked third on the team in putouts (181) and second in fielding percentage (.995). Named to the America East Honor Roll in 2017, the senior also recorded career highs in batting average, slugging percentage, runs, hits, and RBIs a year ago.
Hartford returns 23 players from the 2019 team that finished 23-34 overall, with a 11-13 mark in conference play. The Hawks bring back senior
Zachary Ardito, who was named to the America-East All-First Team last season, and sophomores
Devin Kellogg and
Will Nowak, who were tabbed to the America East All-Rookie Team.
