BOSTON — An offensive explosion featuring a program record in single-game goals led senior
Dylan Jinks of the Hartford men's lacrosse team to America East Offensive Player of the Week honors, the organization announced on Monday.
A native of Cedar Run, N.J., Jinks scored the first five goals of a 6-0 Hartford run that helped the Hawks pull within one of St. John's, which jumped out to a quick seven-goal lead on Saturday. Jinks went on to add three more scores to match the program's single-game scoring record of eight, but it was not enough for Hartford as it fell, 18-10, in its season opener.
Six other Hawks have registered eight-goal outings in the program's 34-year Division I history, but Jinks is the first to accomplish the feat since Tracey Kelusky on April 18, 2000, against Siena. In addition, adding an assist to his total, Jinks' nine points marked the most in a single game since Kevin O'Shea went off for 10 at Richmond (Feb. 16, 2014).
The Offensive Player of the Week award marks the fourth time that Jinks has earned weekly recognition from the America East, as he was a three-time Rookie of the Week honoree in 2016. He is the first Hartford player to earn a weekly honor from the league since
Alex Smith was named Rookie of the Week last March, and Jinks is the first Offensive Player of the Week award winner since
Griffin Feiner took home the distinction in 2017.
Boosting his career point total to 127, Jinks is 15 away from cracking the program's top-10, while with 53 career assists, he needs two more to reach the top-10.
Jinks and the Hawks hit the road for the first time in 2019 on Saturday, Feb. 23, when they trek to Victor, N.Y., to take on Canisius. The first meeting between the Hawks and Golden Griffs since 2000 is set to face off at 5 p.m. from Pinnacle Sports Complex.
