WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – On Wednesday, Ryan Martin announced he would be stepping down as the head coach of the men's lacrosse program after 12 years at Hartford.
"Serving as the head coach at Hartford has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am thankful to every player, alumnus, and supporter who has been a part of this journey. The relationships we've built and memories we've shared will stay with me forever. While it's time for me to prioritize my family, I leave with immense pride in what this program has accomplished and complete confidence in its future."
Martin, who joined the Hawks as the lead assistant in 2015 and was elevated to the head coach in June of 2016. Martin held a 51-57 record as the head coach over 10 seasons and ends his Hartford tenure with the third most wins in program history and third highest winning percentage. Ryan led the Hawks to its first back-to-back double-digit win seasons in 2025 and 2026 going 21-13 in the past two seasons with a 11-3 record at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.

In 2026, Hartford would end the year with a 11-6 overall record including a 7-2 Conference of New England (CNE) record. The Hawks would earn the #3 seed in the CNE Playoffs defeating Nichols College on April 25th to advance to the CNE Semifinals. Hartford would fall in the CNE Semifinals to the eventual CNE Champions Western New England University. The Hawks would have eight CNE All-Conference selections. The team would also earn the schools highest men's team GPA at 3.67 across the two semesters. As a team in 2026 the Hawks would score the 2nd most points in a single season (413), 2nd most goals in a season (226), 3rd most caused turnovers in a single season (121).
Overall in his 10 years as head coach, Martin led 23 All-Conference selections for Hartford.
A national search is underway for the next head coach of the Hartford men's lacrosse program.
