Box Score 2 VESTAL, N.Y. –Hartford baseball's season came to an end on day three of the America East Tournament, topping UAlbany, 5-3, before falling to Binghamton, 10-5, Friday evening.
Freshman
Devin Kellogg finished the day with a team-high four RBI, as the Hawks finish the season 23-34 overall.
GAME ONE: HARTFORD 5 UALBANY 3
Hartford got the scoring started in game one, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. With runners on second and third after a wild pitch, Ardito laced a double to left center field, plating senior Ashthon Bardzell and sophomore
Drew DeMartino for the first two runs of the game.
The Hawks added to their lead in the top of the fifth thanks to a big hit by freshman
Devin Kellogg. With runners on second and third, Kellogg knocked a triple to right field, scoring redshirt-sophomore
Bryce Ramsay and DeMartino, pushing their lead to 4-0.
Hartford tacked on another run in the top of the seventh thanks to some timely base running by Bardzell. After singling up the middle to lead off the inning, Bardzell took second on a wild pitch and then stole third to put him 90 feet away with one out. Ardito then hit a grounder to the second basemen, but Bardzell was running on contact and beat the throw home, pushing the Hawks' lead to 5-0.
UAlbany did not go away quietly, rallying in the bottom of the eighth with three runs. The Great Danes scored a run on a wild pitch and two RBI-singles, making the score 5-3 in favor of Hartford.
Freshman
Will Nowak, however, settled down after a bumpy eighth inning and put UAlbany down in order to secure the 5-3 victory.
GAME TWO: BINGHAMTON 10 HARTFORD 5
After Binghamton opened up the game with two runs in the bottom of the first, Hartford answered in the top of the second. With Ramsay on third and Ardito on second and no outs, Kellogg hit a single to right field scoring Ramsay and moving Ardito to third. In the next at bat, senior
Drew Holtgrieve brought in Ardito from third with a sacrifice fly to right field, tying the game at two.
The Bearcats moved back in front with two runs in the second and three more in the third for the 7-2 lead. Hartford began to chip away in the top of the fifth as they loaded the bases with two outs. Ardito then earned a walk to score junior
Jackson Olson and cut Binghamton's lead to four (7-3).
The Hawks continued to cut into Binghamton's lead in the sixth, plating two more runs thanks to a RBI-double by Olson followed by a RBI groundout by senior
Chris Sullivan to make the score 7-5.
The Bearcats however scored the final three runs of the game to wrap up the 10-5 victory and bring Hartford's season to a close.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Senior Billy DeVito (4-3) earned the win in game one, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out six in six innings of work
- Nowak recorded his seventh save of the season and moves into a tie for third all-time in a single season with Dave Tober (1996) and Colin Ferguson (2016)
- Sophomore Nicholas Dombkowski and DeMartino were both named to the America East All-Tournament Team
- The Hawks won at least 20-games for the sixth straight season, finishing the season with a 23-34 record
- Posting an 11-13 record in America East play, Hartford registered at least 10 conference wins for the second-straight season
