Stover, Lamborn Join Baseball Coaching Staff

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Ninth-year head coach Justin Blood has announced the addition of Trey Stover and Garrett Lamborn to the Hartford baseball team's coaching staff. Stover returns to his alma mater as the team's recruiting coordinator, while Lamborn joins the Hawks' coaching staff as an assistant.
 
A four-year starting shortstop for the Hawks from 2012-15, Stover reunites with Blood after spending the previous season at Marist, where he worked with the Red Foxes' infielders while assisting with the offense. He also spent the 2018 season as a volunteer assistant coach at Quinnipiac, where he helped the Bobcats rank in the top-30 nationally in home runs while finishing as the MAAC leader in steals, hits and homers.
 
"I am really excited to bring Trey back to Hartford," said Blood. "As a student-athlete, he represented our program extremely well by putting in the necessary work to excel in the classroom, on the field and in the community.  I know he will do the same as a coach and will be a great mentor for our current student-athletes."
 
An America East All-Tournament Team selection as a senior, Stover totaled 193 hits — including 33 doubles — 94 runs, 58 RBI and 67 walks in 200 appearances during his carer at Hartford. 
 
After graduating with a bachelor's degree in communications in 2015, Stover was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 35th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. The Lock Haven, Pa., native went on to play in the Appalachian League for the Burlington Royals in Rookie Ball, before continuing his professional baseball career in Germany as the starting shortstop for the Mainz Athletics. 
 
After his time in Germany, Stover traveled to Australia, where he joined the Canberra Club Ball League. In one season with the club, he batted .348 in the leadoff spot for the Ainsle Bears as the starting shortstop.
 
Lamborn joins the Hawks after spending the last five seasons as an assistant coach at Hamilton College. During his time with the Continentals, he coached six all-NESCAC team selections and three all-region team honorees. In addition, Hamilton set or tied seven single-season program records during Lamborn's time on the coaching satff, including wins, batting average, on-base percentage and RBI. 
 
"We are very lucky to have the opportunity to bring in a coach like Garrett with the experience that he has," Blood said. "We talk a lot about our energy, our effort and our direction in this program. Garrett checks the box in every category." 
 
A four-year letterwinner and a two-year starter as an outfielder at Wesleyan from 2006-09, Lamborn led the team with a .380 batting average and a .472 on-base percentage as a junior while as a senior, he finished on top of the team statistics with a .594 slugging percentage. After graduating with a degree in mathematics and economics, he coaching began his coaching career at his alma mater after graduation. As an assistant coach, Lamborn helped lead the Cardinals to a pair of top finishes NESCAC West Division and three NESCAC postseason appearances, including the program's first-ever NESCAC Conference Championship in 2014.
 
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Lamborn played semi-professional baseball in Belgium, South Australia and in the Independent Peach State League, located in Macon, Ga.
