BOSTON — Ryan Lovell, a senior long-stick midfielder on the Hartford men's lacrosse team, was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
 
Lovell, a senior co-captain from Wakefield, Mass., had a career day on the defensive end of the field at St. John's on Saturday. Matching a career high with eight ground balls, he also set a new career-best with four turnovers caused in the Hawks' 13-11 defeat to the Red Storm. 
 
Earning his first career weekly honor — and Hartford's first of the young season — Lovell becomes the first Hawk to receive Defensive Player of the Week recognition since Ryan Vanderford in 2017.
 
Through two games this season Lovell is Hartford's leader in ground balls (9), while his four caused turnovers rank No. 2 on the team.
