BOSTON — A whopping 88 percent of Hartford student-athletes who competed in winter and spring sports this past year received America East Academic Winter/Spring Honor Roll distinction, the organization announced on Thursday.
Student-athletes who were members of the baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's indoor/outdoor track and field and softball teams for the Hawks who had a GPA of 3.0 or better were named to the America East Academic Honor Roll. In total, 191 of Hartford's 216 winter/spring participants posted a GPA of 3.0 or better in Spring 2020 to earn the recognition.
Most impressively, more than 65 percent of those recognized (148 student-athletes) earned Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction for achieving at least a 3.5 GPA.
The softball team knocked it out of the park this past semester with 100-percent of its roster earning Academic Honor Roll distinction. When stacked up against other softball teams in the league, the Hawks landed the highest percentage of Commissioner's Honor Roll members, as all but one of its 23 members (96%) posted at least a 3.5 GPA, including eight (

Mara Sczecienski) that earned perfect 4.0s.
In addition to softball, both the men's and women's basketball teams landed 100 percent of their student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll. Among the 10 members of the women's basketball team, eight (80%) received Commissioner's Honor Roll status, while 10 of the 16 student-athletes on the men's basketball roster (63%) earned at least a 3.5 GPA. More than half of men's basketball's Commissioner's Honor Roll members turned in perfect 4.0s:

The men's track and field team had the second highest percentage of Academic Honor Roll members among its America East peers, with 94 percent of its 33 members (31 student-athletes) receiving the distinction.
The women's lacrosse team also had a successful semester in the classroom, leading the way with 34 Academic Honor Roll members (89% of the roster), including 28 who collected Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition. Men's lacrosse, which led Hartford's winter and spring teams with 11 perfect 4.0s, landed 33 student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll, 28 of whom earned at least a 3.5 GPA.
Twelve of the 18 women's track and field student-athletes that were named to the Academic Honor Roll also received Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction. Baseball had 26 student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll, with 20 named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
In addition to the 10 winter/spring sports that are sponsored by the America East, Hartford's men's and women's golf teams, which compete in the Big Sky Conference and the MAAC, respectively, also put up big numbers in the classroom this past spring. Women's golf posted the second-highest team GPA in the department (3.87) behind four perfect 4.0s from
Teagan Devoe,
Hannah Drew,
Brooke MacKinnon and
Isabelle Premkumar. Men's golf landed five members on the Big Sky All-Academic Team, combining for a 3.63 team GPA.
As a department, Hartford enjoyed an outstanding semester in the classroom with each of its 17 NCAA Division I programs posted at least a 3.46 GPA or higher. The volleyball squad led all programs with a 3.92 team GPA.
A record total of 1,995 student-athletes who competed in America East sponsored winter and spring sports earned Honor Roll distinction, as a record-breaking 86.7 percent of the over 2,300 student-athletes earned at least a 3.0 GPA during the spring 2020 semester. The new mark shatters the old standard of 68.3 percent, set last spring. Of that group, nearly 60 percent and 1,392 in total earned Commissioner's Honor Roll status for registering a GPA of 3.5 or better.
In total, a record 2,816 America East student-athletes were placed on the Academic Honor Roll in 2019-20, as over 83 percent of the America East's 3,412 student-athletes earned the distinction.
