Eight Programs Receive APR Public Recognition Letters

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The University of Hartford Department of Athletics had eight of its teams receive Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards, the NCAA announced. These annual awards recognize collegiate programs that score among the top-10 percent of all programs in each sport based on the most recent multi-year APR numbers.
 
The Hawks led the America East Conference for most teams honored, tying Stony Brook with six apiece. Maine and UMass Lowell each had three programs recognized, Binghamton had two teams honored while UAlbany, UMBC, New Hampshire and Vermont each had one. 
 
Hartford's men's and women's golf teams, which compete in the Big Sky Conference and the MAAC, respectively, joined the men's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's track and field, women's lacrosse and softball teams in receiving the recognition.
 
Four of Hartford's eight teams that received Public Recognition Letters extended streaks for picking up APR Awards. Men's track and field is among 73 programs in Division I that have earned APR Awards in all 15 years of the program. Men's cross country also continues a lengthy streak, earning the award for its 10th straight year. The report also marks the fourth consecutive year that softball earned the recognition.
 
The NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate every spring. This announcement highlights teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
 
APR provides a real-time snapshot of a program's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. The most recent multi-year APRs are based on averages scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
