BOSTON — The Hartford women's soccer team continues to rack up the weekly awards from the America East, as
Kelly Severini took home two of the league's three honors on Monday. A sophomore, Severini was named the America East Offensive Player of the Week and the Rookie of the Week.
A defender from Union, N.J., Severini claimed two honors from the league after tallying four points in an unbeaten week for Hartford. Contributing one goal to a 2-2 draw Thursday at UMass Lowell, she scored the eventual game-winner in the 25th minute on Sunday to lead the Hawks to a crucial 2-0 win against Stony Brook. Severini also anchored the Hawks' back line — which came away with its seventh shutout of the season — in Sunday's victory,
Severini has been a key contributor to a Hartford offense that ranks first in the America East in goals, goals per game, points, points per game, assists and assists per game. She has also anchored a back line that has shut out a league-high seven opponents and leads all America East teams with a 0.61 GAA, the 22nd-best mark in the nation.
Barely leaving the pitch this season, Severini has started in all 14 games and ranks fourth on the squad with 1,255 minutes played. She is second on the team in both goals (4) and assists (3), while her 11 points are third-most on the team. Among the America East's leaders, she is tied for 10th in goals, tied for sixth in assists and tied for ninth in points.
Severini's two awards push Hartford's total to five weekly awards this season. Sophomore
Jordyn Ferraro received Rookie of the Week distinction on Sept. 27, joining classmate
Imani Jenkins, who received the award in back-to-back weeks on Sept. 7 and Sept. 13. Jenkins was also tabbed the America East Offensive Player of the Week, on Sept. 13.
With two games remaining in the regular season, the Hawks are currently tied for fifth alongside UAlbany with 11 points in a tight playoff race. Vermont, which sits atop the league standings with 15 points, is followed by Binghamton (14 point) and UMass Lowell (13 points).
Severini and the Hawks have mid-week bye before they head to Maine for their final regular-season road game on Sunday. Kickoff from Mahaney Diamond in Orono, Maine is set for 1 p.m.
