STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Hartford baseball team had five players earn a total of nine All-Conference honors, the America East announced Wednesday. Senior
John Thrasher highlighted the impressive list of honorees, earning America East Player of the Year, All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team honors.
With his Player of the Year honor, Thrasher becomes the fourth player in program history to take home the distinction, and the first since 2018 when Nick Campana bestowed the honor.
In addition to Thrasher, four other Hawks were placed on All-Conference teams. Thrasher was joined on the First Team by fellow senior Nicholas Dombkowski. Redshirt freshman Tremayne Cobb Jr. and Derek Tenney took home two awards apiece, earning spots on both the Second Team and the All-Rookie Team, while senior Drew DeMartino rounded out the All-Conference honorees by earning All-Academic Team laurels.
A native of Ridgefield, Conn., Thrasher enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Hawks at the plate, ranking first in the America East in batting average (.369), slugging percentage (.680), on-base percentage (.470) and stolen bases (37). Hartford's leadoff hitter, he was successful in 37 of 40 stolen base attempts this season, ranking second in the nation in steals.
In addition, Thrasher inked his name atop the program's all-time (69) and single-season (37) record books in stolen bases after breaking each of those records against UAlbany on April 24. He adds All-Academic Team honors to his historic season, posting a 3.51 GPA as an insurance major.
A native of West Springfield, Mass., Dombkowski posted a stellar season on the hill for the Hawks, leading the way in wins (4) and ERA (3.13), while ranking in the top-10 in the America East in innings pitched (60.1), strikeouts (72) and batting average against (.194). A two-time All-Conference First Team selection, who previously earned the honor in 2018, Dombkowski's season was highlighted by an historic performance against UAlbany on May 8 that saw him toss the second no-hitter in program history.
A first baseman, Tenney slugged his way to All-Conference Second Team and All-Rookie honors this season. Hitting .303, the Wethersfield, Conn., native, ranks in the league's top-10 in RBI (32) and slugging percentage (.561), while his nine home runs are good for second-most in the America East.
After appearing in eight games in an abbreviated 2020 season, Cobb Jr. emerged at the plate with an impressive .308 batting average. The Upper Marlboro, Md., native finished within the top-three on the team in hits (36), homers (3), RBI (20), steals (18) and on-base percentage (.386).
A native of Pittsfield, Mass., DeMartino was a key contributor for the Hawks, recording two homers, two triples, nine doubles and 14 RBI in 34 appearances. The second baseman also posted 55 assists, while boasting a 3.72 GPA as a risk management and insurance major.
The Hawks closed out their season with an 18-20 record on the season and in conference play, narrowly missing a berth at the America East Championship.
