Box Score CLEMSON, S.C. – The Hartford baseball team fell in its opening game of 2022, 6-1, to Clemson this evening.
Donnie Cohoon scored the lone run for the Hawks off a RBI single from
Derek Tenney.
With the loss, the Hawks fell to 0-1 on the season, while the Tigers improved to 5-0 on the campaign.
CLEMSON 6, HARTFORD 1
After a scoreless start to the game, Clemson struck first for three runs in the third frame to jump out to an early 3-0 advantage. The Tigers would add onto their lead in the fourth with a solo home run, before tacking on another run in the fifth. The Hawks were able to load the bases in the top half of the sixth after walks from
Kyle Hawes and
Daniel Burnett and a single from Tenney, but Clemson would prevent Hartford from cutting the deficit.
Clemson would add one more in the sixth inning, taking a 6-0 lead. The Hawks offense would get going in the top half of the eight. With two outs, Cohoon and Tenney recorded back-to-back singles. Burnett stepped up to the plate at the next at-bat, ripping a single into right field, plating Cohoon to pull one back for the Hawks, 6-1. The Hawks wouldn't get any closer however dropping its season opener, 6-1.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Senior pitcher Tim Blaisdell (0-1) got the start and picked up the loss, allowing five runs in 4.2 innings of work
- Blaisdell recorded three strikeouts on the afternoon
- Graduate student pitcher Robert Chaney threw 3.1 innigns in relief, giving up one run while not allowing a hit
- Cohoon led the Hartford offense with a 2-for-4 outing at the plate
- Tenney finished 2-for-3, drawing a walk and recording a RBI
