Kelly sets school record in victory

Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Welcome back to the University of Hartford men's lacrosse team.

In the program's first game since 2021, the Hawks exploded onto the scene with a 24-0 win over Mitchell Wednesday. It was the first time since 2016 that Hartford opened the season with a victory.

Freshman Eric Kelly set a new school record with nine goals as Hartford dominated the action. Every Hartford player that attempted at least two shots found the back of the net. And the shots were aplenty as Hartford finished with a 60-12 edge over the Mariners.

Eight total Hawks scored in the contest, five of them finding the back of the net multiple times. Freshman Aidan Kemp added four goals and two assists, while freshman Mason Moy recorded a team-high five assists to go along with three goals. Sophomore Griffin Weller added four assists in the win.

Freshman goalkeeper Cole Zering played the first half and finished with five saves. Freshman goalkeeper Andrew Leibold finished with four saves in the second half.

Freshman Cam James led the team with 14 groundballs, while freshman Tim Votta led the way with four caused turnovers.

Hartford opened up a double-digit lead with 11 goals in the first period, and it added five more goals in the second period. The scoring barrage continued with six goals in the third period and two more in the fourth.

INSIDE THE BOX AND NOTES

It was the second shutout in school history, the other coming in a 26-0 win over Assumption in 1986.
The 24 goals were the third most scored, behind 26 against Assumption and 25, also against Assumption.
Sophomore Dean Bard and freshman Cam James combined to win 21 of the team's 22 face-offs.

Hartford returns to action 4 p.m. March 15, traveling to Randolph.
