Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – If there is a halftime message that could be bottled up and used again, Tuesday's message from University of Hartford women's lacrosse coach
Elizabeth Morrison may be just the one.
Hartford scored 12 of the first 13 second-half goals to put a stranglehold on the contest and overcome a less-than-ideal second period with the 15-10 victory over Commonwealth Coast Conference-foe Western New England in the Golden Bear Stadium.
Five different players found the back of the net in the game-changing third period as the Hawks turned a four-goal halftime deficit into a two-goal lead heading into the fourth period.
The scoring barrage continued in the final period as freshman
Madison Olmstead scored or assisted on four of the five goals to open the fourth period. WNE added a pair of goals late, but by then, the outcome was purely academic.
Western New England appeared to have seized control with an equalizing goal in the final second of the first period and added five consecutive goals in the second to open up its largest lead of the game (7-2). However, Hartford managed to stem the tide with a late goal heading into halftime.
Graduate
Hanna Ramsey was stellar in between the pipes, with 16 saves, which is one off her career-high set earlier this season.
