BEVERLY, Mass. - On Thursday, the Conference of New England (CNE) announced its women's lacrosse major award winners and all-conference teams with Hartford women's lacrosse seeing eight members selected.
Sophomore
Kate Zonin (North Smithfield, R.I.) headlined the Hawks being tabbed as the CNE Offensive Player of the Year as well as a 1st Team All-Conference selection. Zonin ended the year with a team-high 73 goals to go along with 17 assists for 90 points. Kate added 69 draw controls, 20 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. The sophomore is the first ever major conference award winner in program history.
Four Hawks were named 2nd Team All-Conference in senior
Samantha Ciaglo (Colchester, Conn.), sophomore
Emiley Bussiere (Agawam, Mass.), junior
Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.), and senior
Sara Costa (Shrub Oak, N.Y.).
Ciaglo leaves Hartford as the most decorated defensive-player in program history being named to the all-conference second team for the second consecutive season. Samatha contributed a single-season program record 24 caused turnovers this season with 28 ground balls. The senior leaves as the program record holder in caused turnovers (65).
Bussiere had a stellar second season with Hartford making 18 starts at defense. Emiley ended the year with an assist, 17 caused turnovers and 24 grounders. Bussiere played a pivotal role in the Hawks clear game as a main transition player this season.
Samela continued to excel this season for the Hawks starting all 18 games. Lauren thrived in the draw control breaking the program-record with 137 this season. She also totaled 34 goals, 12 assists for 46 points and added 17 caused turnovers and 32 ground balls.
Costa finished her Hawk career with a sensational senior season. Sara ended the year second on the team in points with 51 on 36 goals and 15 assists. She added 23 grounders and 11 caused turnovers.
Junior
Mandi Rivard (Vernon, Conn.) and junior
Laurel McIntosh (East Kingston, R.I.) both were named to the 3rd Team All-Conference.
Rivard had a great junior season in the cage for the Hawks stopping 119 shots in a 10-7 record. Mandi ended the year with a program best 10.53 goals against average with a .438 save percentage.
McIntosh was fourth on the team in total points with 38 on 24 goals and 14 assists. Laurel also caused seven turnovers and picked up 19 grounders.
Senior
Shelby Frashure (Pasadena, Md.) rounded out the All-Conference selections being named to the Community Service Team. Frashure was a two-year SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) president and has really grown the committee over her tenure. Frashure ended the season with 15 starts and 16 games played with seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
