Eight Hawks Named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - On Tuesday, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2023-24 Easton / NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Honors with eight Hawks featured. 

The eight Hawks include freshman Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.), freshman Sydney Matz (Ellington, Conn.), sophomore Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.), freshman Hailey Pruett (Nottingham, N.H.), graduate student Mara Sczecienski (Mason, Mich.), freshman Alexis Sealey (Pleasant Hill, Calif.), junior Azya Walker (Oak Forest, Ill.) and junior Olivia Wolk (Sugarloaf, Pa.). 

To be named a NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete the student-athlete must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher for the 2023-24 academic year. 

Hopkins, a criminal justice major made 15 appearances for the Hawks in her first season. She ended the season with a 3-1 record in the circle with two complete games and a save. Hopkins tossed 33.1 innings with 15 strikeouts and a ERA of 3.15. 

Matz, a business administration major saw the field in 28 games for the Hawks making 23 starts. Sydney ended the year slashing .283/.368/.400 (AVG/OBP/SLG) with 15 runs scored, 12 RBIs, five doubles and five stolen bags. 

Mayhood, a early childood education major was the main starter for the Hawks in 2024 making 16 starts going 11-3 with seven complete games and four shutouts. Carly ended the year tossing 92.1 innings with an ERA of 1.97 and 82 punchouts. 

Pruett, a radiologic technology major saw action in 13 games for Hartford in her first season. Hailey ended the season going 1-for-9 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. 

Sczecienski, a member of the mba accounting program earns her fourth All-America Scholar Athlete honor previous being awarded from 2021-2023. Mara started 34 games for the Hawks slashing .425/.427/.667 (AVG/OBP/SLG) with three home runs, 38 RBIs, 28 runs scored, 10 doubles, seven stolen bases and five triples. Sczecienski was later named to the NFCA DIII All-Region First Team following the stellar season. 

Sealey, a business administration major had success from the circle and at the plate in her first season as a Hawk. As a pitcher Alexis ended the year with 14 appearances and eight starts. She posted a 8-2 record with a complete game and a ERA of 2.70. At the plate Sealey ended with a .343/.393/.569 (AVG/OBP/SLG) slash line with four homers, 24 runs scored, 14 RBIs and 11 doubles. Alexis was later named a NFCA DIII All-Region Third Team selection. 

Walker, a english / secondary education major started 33 games for Hartford in her junior season. Azya ended the year with a .258/.371/.360 (AVG/OBP/SLG) slash line with a homer, 29 runs scored, 12 stolen bases, 10 RBIs and six doubles. 

Wolk, a biochemistry major started 34 games for the Hawks in her junior season. Olivia who has been a All-America Scholar Athlete the past two years had a great season slashing .434/.500/.670 (AVG/OBP/SLG) with five home runs, 29 RBIs, 28 runs scored, six doubles and six stolen bases. Wolk was later named to the NFCA DIII All-Region Second Team.
