Payoff Preview: #3 Hawk’s Travel to Face #1 Gulls with Conference Hardware on the Line

BEVERLY, Mass. – The University of Hartford Women's Lacrosse Team travels to take on the #1 seed Endicott Gulls in the CNE Championship on May, 3rd at 4:00 PM.

No. 3 University of Hartford Hawks (13-5 Overall, 7-2 CNE)

No. 1 Endicott Gulls (14-4 Overall, 9-0 CNE)

Game Headlines:

Hartford Women's Lacrosse will play in their first conference championship in program history in only the first season as a full member of the Conference of New England. Last time out, the Hawks of Hartford took down the Hawks of Roger Williams by the score of 15-14 in a thrilling, comeback victory.

Hartford Headlines:

  • The Hawks come into today's game on a nine-game winning streak with all of those matchups coming against fellow CNE opponents The Hawks have doubled up their opponents, outscoring them 166-81 during the streak.

  • Hartford saw offensive production team-wide in their round two victory with four Hawks scoring multiple goals. Sophomore Madison Olmstead (Wolcott, Conn) and senior Meghan Smith (Orange, Conn.) still lead the charge offensively, however, sophomore captain Talei Ricketson (Centennial, Colo.) and sophomore Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.) have come up clutch for the squad during the playoffs. 

  • The Hartford defense stepped up big after the shaky start in the first quarter of round two. Samela led the charge with six ground balls, three caused turnovers and five draw controls. Alongside Samela's efforts, Olmstead, Smith, and sophomore Laurel McIntosh (West Kingston, R.I.) all also played substantial roles on defense in the come-from-behind win.

  • The Hawks showed off a two-pronged attack at goal last game with both sophomore Mandi Rivard (Vernon, Conn.) and sophomore Emily Campbell (Plainville, Mass.) getting substantial time in net. Look for this mix to continue with both goalies putting together great seasons for the Hawks. This season, Rivard has compiled a 12.43 GAA and has earned a CNE Defensive Player of the Week Award for her outstanding play. As for Campbell, she has compiled a formidable .486 save percentage in her seven games played in goal for the Hawks.

Endicott Highlights:

  •  The Endicott Gulls come into today's game ready to defend their 2024 conference title and finish with a clean sweep on the CNE. The Gulls are currently on a four game win streak where they have outscored their opponents 90-25

  •  Endicott is led by the three-headed monster in Leah Black, Bailey Sheehan and Mia Smith. All three of these upperclassmen have been the lifeblood of this phenomenal Gulls squad, scoring 45, 43, and 39 goals, respectively. Alongside the goal scorers, Endicott has six players with double-digit assists, with Sheehan leading the team with 32 assists.

  •  Endicotts defense has been dominant since their 20-6 loss to #3 Colby College, only allowing 6.25 goals per game on their current win streak. Kaitlyn DiLoreto leads the way for the Gulls tallying 39 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers.

  • In net, Payton Quirk finished as one of the top goalies in the CNE, allowing 10.46 goals per game and compiling 104 saves in over 900 minutes of play. Quirk's 38.7 save percentage has propelled her squad to a whopping 14-4 record on the year.

All-Time Against Roger Williams University:

Hartford is 0-2 all-time against Endicott College. In the two matchups, the Gulls have taken care of business, running away with both contests by the scores of 20-4 and 18-9.
