Hawks Storm Past Eastern Connecticut State University with a 3-0 Win

Box Score West Hartford, Conn. - The Hartford women's soccer team defeated the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors on Tuesday night 3-0, this now brings the Hawks record to 3-0-1 overall for a powerful start to their season.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Warriors started out on the attack, with their first shot on goal coming only 13 seconds into the game. The first set piece for the Warriors came from a dangerous free kick  came at 8:03 minutes but was unsuccessful due to the Hawks strong defense. The Hawks had their first shot on goal at 11:26, by junior Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.)  that missed just wide. Tension built between these teams as they traded possession and fouls as they moved through the first until the 33rd minute when a foul was committed by ECSU in the box. The penalty kick was taken by senior Rebecca Opdenbrouw (Vernon, Conn.) who found the bottom left corner to put the Hawks up 1-0 headed into the half.
  • Freshman Anastasia Nerney (Glocester, R.I ) had the first shot on goal for Hartford early in the half, but it was saved by the Warriors keep Alex Ignatowicz. In the 52nd minute of play Hartford converted a beautiful header into the upper right by senior Mayson Massaro (Sarasota, Fla.) assisted by Brush a perfect corner service. In the 65th minute of play Brush found the back of the net from just inside the box. It was pretty quiet on both ends from there, and the Hawks ended up with the 3-0 win over the Warriors.
