Mathews Named NFHCA Scholar of Distinction

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - On Friday, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2025 Collegiate National Scholars of Distinction, recognizing 1,028 student-athletes. Senior Mikayla Mathews (Pittsgrove, N.J.) was the lone Hawk to make the list.

To be named to the academic squad the student-athlete had to receive a GPA of 3.90 or higher through the fall semester.

Mathews, who recently was named to the NFHCA Academic Squad on Wednesday, started in all 15 of Hartford's games during her senior season. Mikayla accumulated the third-most minutes on the team with 905. Mathews was a key performer throughout the year for the Hawks. She registered the first assist of her collegiate career on October 7th against Manhattanville in a close 2-1 win in double-overtime. At the end of the season, Mathews was recognized by being selected to the Conference of New England (CNE) Community Service Team.

Mathews becomes the first Hartford field hockey student-athlete to receive this honor as the team is in its inaugural season.
