COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - On Wednesday, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2025 collegiate national academic squad recognizing 14 Hartford field hockey student-athletes.
Overall the NFHCA recognized 3,300 student-athletes in excellence in the classroom. To be named to the academic squad the student-athlete had to receive a GPA of 3.50 or higher through the fall semester.

Ava Lipson (Colchester, Vt.), senior
Mikayla Mathews (Pittsgrove, N.J.), freshman
Ava Passon (Windsor, Conn.), freshman
Lorelai Shippee (Greenville, N.H.), senior
Sara Costa (Shrub Oak, N.Y.), freshman
Carolyn Ducharme (Suffield, Conn.) sophomore
Catie Melchiorre (Elmer, N.J.), freshman
Molly O'Donnell (Holyoke, Mass.), sophomore
Bogi Lendvai (Morris, Conn.), junior
Lauren Santos (Waterford, Conn.), freshman
Ashley Taylor (South Deerfield, Mass.), freshman
Kyra Benard (Agawam, Mass.), freshman
Carolyn Somers (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore
Nicole Ciampa (Jefferson, N.J.).
In her freshman season, Lipson appeared in 13 games for the Hawks, starting 12. Over 701 total minutes, she earned 10 points, the second most on the team, thanks to her four goals and two assists.
Mathews appeared and started in all 15 of Hartford's games during her senior season. Accumulating the third-most minutes on the team with 905, Mathews was a key performer throughout the year for the Hawks. At the end of the season, Mathews was recognized by being selected to the Conference of New England (CNE) Community Service Team.
Passon made two appearances off the bench for the Hawks in her freshman season. She logged 52 minutes over the two games.
In her freshman season, Shippee appeared and started in all 15 of Hartford's games, totaling the second most minutes on the team with 913. On the year, Shippee accumulated the second most defensive saves on the team with two.
Costa appeared and started in all 15 of Hartford's games during her senior season, accumulating 883 total minutes. Costa would end the year with 12 shots on goal, the second most on the team, showing her propensity to be in dangerous attacking positions.
During her freshman season, Ducharme appeared in 13 games for the Hawks, starting two of them. Across her appearances, Ducharme would accrue a total of 283 minutes.
Melchiorre made 14 appearances during her sophomore season, starting in 10. Over 499 total minutes, Melchiorre would earn three points. All three of her points would come on September 9th in a 5-1 victory against Albertus Magnus where she would notch one goal and one assist.
In her freshman season, O'Donnell appeared in 14 games, starting 13. In those games, O'Donnell would accumulate a total of 777 minutes. O'Donnell proved to be a key defender for the Hawks throughout the season, amassing five defensive saves over the full year.
In her sophomore season, Lendvai made 13 appearances, all of which were off the bench. Across those appearances, she would total 140 minutes and have one shot on goal.
Santos would make two appearances for the Hawks in her junior season, playing 33 total minutes.
Taylor played in all 15 matches for the Hawks during her freshman season, starting all but one. Over her 787 minutes played, she would accrue eight total points, which was the third-highest mark on the squad, thanks to her two goals and four assists, the most on the team.
Benard played in and started every one of Hartford's 15 games during her freshman season, accumulating 756 total minutes. Benard was a standout for the Hawks, scoring seven goals, the most on the team, and assisting her teammates twice for a team-high 16 total points. Benard's impressive season saw her get named to the CNE All-Conference Third Team.
Somers made 11 appearances during her freshman season, starting in each of them. Across her 526 minutes played, Somers made 99 saves and had a save percentage of 69.7%. She had a season-high 15 saves in a matchup on October 22nd against St. Joseph (Conn.), and picked up her first collegiate win on August 29th against Elms College.
Ciampa made seven appearances for the Hawks during her sophomore season, starting three. Across her 259 total minutes, Ciampa held an impressive save percentage of 83.6% and had the team-best goals-against-average of 2.08. She earned her first collegiate win on October 7th against Manhatanville in a 2-1 win.
