Samela Crowned as CNE Defensive Player of the Week

BEVERLY, Mass. – On Monday, the Conference of New England (CNE) announced its weekly lacrosse awards, with junior midfielder Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.) being crowned Defensive Player of the Week.

Samela has been an anchor for the Hawks, helping the team capture two victories this week to improve to 2-3 on the season. In the 17-3 over Wellesley, Samela sent home two goals, dished out two assists, and caused two turnovers. As for the 13-7 win over Keene State, she kept right on rolling, causing four more turnovers and grabbing five more ground balls.

Over the course of the season, Samela has tallied 11 goals, five assists, nine ground balls, and eight caused turnovers.

Hartford Women's Lacrosse will be back out on the field on March 17th for their home opener as they host a CNE opponent in Wentworth.

Originally founded in 1984 as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) and reconstituted as the Conference of New England (CNE) in 2024, the CNE is an NCAA Division III Athletic Conference composed of 11 full member and five associate member institutions throughout the New England region.
