WENHAM, Mass. - This weekend, the University of Hartford Track and Field team will compete in their conference championship meet. Both the mens and womens teams have a strong and competitive season and are looking to earn some championship gold at Gordon College over Friday and Saturday.
Men's Team Preview:
The Hartford men look to go back-to-back in the Conference of New England (CNE) championships after winning last year. The Hawks edged Roger Williams University by a 167-153 final while Gordon followed in third with 128 points.
Sprints & Hurdles
Graduate student Kaden Leonard (Webster, N.Y.) leads the Hawks in 100 meter coming in with a mark of 10.58 seconds. Freshman Jason Edmund (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is the leader in the 200 meter at a time of 22.41. Sophomore Marlon Pierre (Baldwin, N.Y.) remains a reliable scorer in the 110 hurdles event with a top mark of 15.37 seconds.
Mid-Distance & Distance
Sophomore Owen Klein (Coventry, R.I.) is primed for big points in the 1500m and 5K, while junior Stephen Haney (Foxborough, Mass.) and junior Keller Casey (Charlton, N.Y.) strengthen the mid and long-distance group.
Field Events
First-year jumper Julius Lowe-Wannamaker (Springfield, Mass.) continues to rise in the high and long jump competitions. Junior Thomas Yonkers (Farmington, Conn.) anchors the pole vault squad and is primed to bring home gold in the event.
Throwers
Junior Will Pavlinsky (New Milford, Conn.) enters as a top contender in the shot put, with sophomore Aidan Lybarger (South Burlington, Vt.) rounding out a deep throws unit as the star thrower in discus.
With scoring potentials in every event group, the Hawks are positioned for one of their most complete team performances of the season.
Women's Team Preview:
The women's team arrives this weekend with a mix of experienced leaders and face-improving newcomers looking to win the programs first ever CNE title.
Sprints & Hurdles
People like junior Emily Blanchette (Bristol, Conn.) and freshman Jaya Pichay (South Windsor, Conn.) have gained consistency throughout this spring.
Distance
Junior Sophia Rebenciuc (Southwick, Mass.) and senior Elizabeth White (Nashua, N.H.) lead the mid-distance and distance squad, giving Hartford scoring chances from the 800m through the 5k.
Field Events
Junior Giselle Scrivanich (Medford, N.J.) anchors the pole vault squad while multi-event athlete junior Jordan Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.) adds versatility across several events. The indoor All-American is in line to win the high jump event. Graduate student Kayla Pelletier (Southington, Conn.) is also an athlete to note in the javelin as she currently ranks first in division III.
Throws Events
Senior Madison DiPasquale (Wallingford, Conn.) and senior Destinee Majett (Brick Township, N.J.) both are looking to dominate the throws competition, while senior Tommie Barker (Canton, Conn.) provides depth.
With emerging talent across the board and strong relay potential, the Hawks aim to convert their season-long development into meaningful championship points.
