TURKU, Finland – Daniel Antunez, a University of Hartford alum and former member of the men's soccer team, continues to excel at the professional level. The midfielder currently represents Football Club International Turku, commonly known as FC Inter or Inter Turku, of the Finnish Premier Division.
Antunez signed a one-year contract with FC Inter in March of 2010. Through 26 games, the former Hawk has led FC Inter to an overall record of 11-10-5 this season. A football club based in Turku Finland, FC Inter was founded in 1990 and has played in the Veikkausliiga – the highest level of Finnish football – since 1996.
Following his graduation from Hartford, Antunez kicked off his professional soccer career with the Colorado Rapids where he was one of four draft picks in the 2008 Supplemental Draft. In August of 2008, the Rochester Rhinos of the United Soccer League's First Division in August of 2008 signed Antunez after his release from the Rapids. Antunez saw action in 13 games and helped the Rhinos post an overall record of 11-10-9 in 2008.
Antunez was a two-year member of the men's soccer team at Hartford after transferring from Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Tex. During his tenure with the Hawks, the Santa Ana, Calif. native poured in four goals, two of which were game-winners, and tacked on seven assists for 15 career points. Antunez was an America East All-Conference First Team selection and earned NSCAA All-Region Third Team honors following his final season with Hartford in 2007.
