ONEONTA, N.Y. – In its final tune-up before the start of America East conference play, the University of Hartford men's soccer team was blanked by Hartwick, 1-0, on Saturday evening dropping its third-straight decision.
The Hawks remain winless on the road in 2010 and fall to 2-5-0 overall. Hartwick, who entered Saturday's contest without a win through its first seven games, improves to 1-6-1.
“The Hartford Hawks worked hard, but our effort tonight was not enough to bring home a victory,” commented head coach Dan Gaspar. He continued, “Tonight's match was another non-conference battle to help the Hawks prepare for the challenges of the America East conference.”
Neither team dented the scoreboard in the first half however Hartwick ended the scoring drought early in the second half. Hartwick's Owen Botting perfectly placed a high ball into Hartford's box in the 56th minute allowing Steven Amaya to send a head ball past Hartford keeper Jordan Bar.
Hartford and Hartwick finished virtually equal on the offensive end with each team firing off seven shots. Patrick Boucher, a junior forward, rifled a pair of shots on goal to lead the Hawks but could not get one past Hartwick net minder Jake Wright. Wright recorded a game-high five saves while Bar was tested four times in the contest and came out with three stops.
Hartford held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
After three-straight matches on the road, Hartford returns to Alumni Stadium on Saturday, October 2 for its 2010 America East conference opener against Albany. The Hawks and Great Danes will square-off under the lights of Al-Marzook Field at 7:00 p.m.
