Men’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Boston University in America East Opener

BOX SCORE

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. With his second goal of the season, rookie Dominique Badji broke a 77 minute scoreless deadlock in favor of Boston University to lift his team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Hartford men's soccer team in the opening game of America East Conference play at Al-Marzook Field on Saturday evening. The Terriers improve to 3-5-0 (1-0 AE) on the season while the Hawks snap a four-game unbeaten streak with the loss and fall to 3-6-2 (0-1 AE) in 2011.

Badji's game-winner was set up by sophomore midfielder Anthony Ciccone at the 77:03 mark. From the right side, Ciccone launched a centering pass, connecting with Badji who headed home the lone goal of the match from eight yards out.

With the majority of the first half played in between the two 18-yard boxes, senior Jorge Rodriguez and freshman Atobra Ampadu saw Hartford's best looks at the goal in that period. Rodriguez' attempt in the 31st minute forced Terriers' keeper Nick Thomson to make his first save of the match while Ampadu's shot, which came in the 42nd minute of action, reached the hands of Thomson before crossing the goal line.

The Terriers held an 8-4 advantage in the shots column and led in corner kicks, 3-0. For the Hawks, Luke Citriniti made a pair of saves while Thomson, his counterpart, also registered two stops in the match. Ampadu led Hartford's attack with two shots while junior Kevin Lewis and Rodriguez each finished with one look at the goal.

The Hawks will travel to West Point, N.Y. on Wednesday, October 5 to face the Army Black Knights for the first of a three-game road span. The Hawks and Black Knights are scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off. Hartford holds a 1-0 edge in the all-time series after scoring a 2-1, overtime win in West Hartford on October 20, 2010.
