Baseball Drops Season Finale to Stony Brook 10-3

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –
The Hartford baseball team dropped its regular season finale to the visiting Stony Brook Seawolves 10-3 on Saturday afternoon, coming up one win shy of advancing to the America -East Championship. The Hawks close out the 2013 season with a 17-36 overall record and a mark of 13-17 in conference action with the 13 league victories the most since 1992 (18-10).

On Saturday, the Hawks were led by freshman Chris DelDebbio who finished 2-of-4 at the plate while knocking in one of the runs. Sophomore short stop Trey Stover recorded the only other RBI in the game as he finished 1-of-4 at the plate, with the pair combining for three of the seven total Hawks hits.

On the hill, Hartford's loss credited to junior Brian Hunter who pitched three-plus innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on three hits and four walks. He also struck out two batters. Kyle Gauthier, Tyler Corsi and Jacob Mellin all saw time in relief of the Hawks with all three giving up at least one run.

The Seawolves scored early and often putting up single runs in the first and second innings before increasing the lead with six runs in the middle three innings to take an 8-0 advantage. Hartford's three runs all came by way of one run inning in the seventh, eighth and ninth with the Seawolves getting two of those runs back in the top half of the ninth inning.

Stony Brook was led by Cole Peragine and Austin Shives who each drove in two runs, while as a team the Seawolves collected 11 hits and received six free passes, five walks and a hit batter. Jack Parenty, Kevin Krause and Joshua Mason all finished with a team-best two hits. On the hill, the Seawolves starter Brandon McNitt earned his third victory of the season pitching seven innings allowing just one earned run on five hits and a walk. He also struck out a game-high six batters.
