Men's Lacrosse Drops 12-7 Decision at Brown

Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Kevin O'Shea notched his fourth multi-goal outing in as many games this season, but it wasn't enough for the Hartford men's lacrosse team to hold off Brown, as a flurry of second-half goals lifted the Bears to a 12-7 win at Stevenson Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks dip to 2-2 on the season while Brown improves to 2-1 overall.

Facing a one-goal deficit at intermission at 4-3, the Hawks never recovered from a 3-1 Brown rally to start the third quarter. Holding on to the 7-4 lead, the Bears netted five of the last eight goals of the game to secure the win on their home field.

The Hawks received markers from five other players as senior transfer Greg Reynolds posted a team-high three points on one goal and a pair of assists. Sam Hurster and Dylan Molloy combined for nearly all of Brown's scoring, netting six and four goals, respectively. Molloy added an assist to finish with five points.

Within the first six minutes of the game, Brown found itself ahead on the frigid afternoon thanks to unassisted scores from Kylor Bellistri and Molloy, but O'Shea halved the home team's lead with 6:07 left in the first, also scoring unassisted to make it a 2-1 contest.

That score remained for the rest of the opening quarter until Jaedon Henderson, a freshman, dodged a Brown defender and struck the scoreboard at 13:45 to knot up the score at 2-2. The game would be tied again at three-all following a marker from Brown's Hurster and long-range bullet from Hartford's Ty Schuldt, but the Bears would find themselves with the slight halftime edge thanks to Molloy's second score of the half.

Brown keeper Jack Kelly, who had 16 saves on 23 shots faced, was solid in the first, was solid in the first half, robbing the Hawks of several scoring chances in the first. In the final seconds of the half, Hartford had a chance to tie up the contest. After forcing the Bears into a turnover out of a timeout, the Hawks scooped up the ground ball and went the distance, but with seven seconds left, Kevin Sanna's shot was turned away by Kelly as Brown preserved its advantage at the break.

The offense slowed down for the Hawks in the second half as the Bears regained their two-point edge less than two minutes in on a Hurster goal. A Reynolds' unassisted score at 12:07 made it a single-goal contest. However, Brown used a 3-1 run fueled by two more Hurster goals and a Molloy marker to open up a 7-4 advantage heading into the fourth.

The Bears built upon theirlead in the fourth and pulled away, outscoring Hartford, 4-2, during that game-ending stretch. Redshirt senior Frank Piechota made eight saves between the pipes for Hartford. The Hawks outshot the Bears heavily (45-27), but put only 16 of their targets on goal. Hartford also held a slight 12-of-23 advantage in faceoffs.

Hartford opens up a two-game homestand featuring a pair of games against opponents from the MAAC. The Hawks first host Siena on Saturday (1 p.m.) before welcoming the Quinnipiac Bobcats to Al-Marzook Field on Wednesday (4 p.m.).
