BOSTON — Jimmy Slayton from the Hartford men's soccer team was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week for the third week in a row, the organization announced on Monday. The senior tallied seven saves across two shutout wins last week against CCSU and UAlbany.
The last time a Hartford player won three conference Player of the Week Honors in a single season was in 2001, when Alon Lubezky was a three-time Rookie of the Week honoree.
Slayton has not allowed a goal in 520 plus minutes and currently ranks seventh in school history in career wins (21), sixth in career saves (230) and third in career GAA (1.13). His shutout streak of five games is the longest since Hartford entered the Division I ranks.
The award is Slayton's sixth career honor after being named Defensive Player of the Week the last two weeks. He was also named co-Defensive Player of the Week once last season and America East Rookie of the Week twice his freshman season.
The Wethersfield, Conn., native is the second player to receive a weekly award in 2019, after freshman midfielder
Addrian Knights-Browne was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 9, after scoring the game-winner against Brown.
Slayton and the Hawks return to action with a non-conference matchup against Northeastern on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. Following the trip to Northeastern, the Hawks return home to Al-Marzook Field for an America East clash against UMBC on Saturday, Oct. 5. Kickoff, which was originally scheduled for 7 p.m., is now scheduled for 2 p.m.
