As the University of Hartford men's soccer prepares for the 2023 season, the Hawks will have a collection of returners to lean on as they navigate the Commonwealth Coast Conference for the first time.
Â
Hartford returns 14 student-athletes, who all saw signification action in 2022.
Â
Senior
Nate Becher and sophomore
Jack Merrill are the only two returners to start all 14 games last season with sophomore
Jayden Castro and senior
Trey Sadler returning after seeing action in all 14 contests.
Â
Becher, who interim head coach
Mike Kulas described as a multifaceted player, finished the season with two assists last year. His comfortability in the midfield, along with his workhorse mentality will lead the Hawks this season.
Â
Sadler, who started 10 games a season ago, will aid Becher in the middle as a central midfielder with great vision and technique. Castro, Nick Castrovinci, and
Jake Reynolds are all returners who will bring experience to the midfield.
Â
Senior
Alex Quinones is one of two returners who found the back of the net a season ago. He is a quick and elusive attacking player who will be joined by sophomore
Dominik Femiak in potential goal production from the forward position.
Â
Hartford's defensive efforts will be led by senior
Dylan Jessop and junior
Devan Jessop. They will bring a consistent defensive presence and approach to the back line. Sophomores
Alex Foligno and
C.J. Lazzara will also be counted on as the Hawks will be breaking in a freshman goalkeeper in either
Justin Matrose or
Mauricio Vega-Estades
.
The Hawks will open the season with a pair of non-conference games, including its home and season opener against Connecticut College on September 5.
Â
Hartford begins CCC action with the defending conference champion, Roger Williams, on September 16 and has its home CCC opener with Gordon on September 23.
Â
The schedule features nine home games, including five against conference opponents, and six games on the road.
