Hartford Men's Lacrosse Blows Out University of New England

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Hartford men's lacrosse team bounced back in a huge way on Saturday night defeating the University of New England by a 16-2 final. Hartford is now 5-1 in the Conference of New England (CNE). 

Rapid Recap:

  • The Nor'easters would score an early goal just 58 seconds in to take a 1-0 lead. The Hawks would respond with the remaining four goals in the quarter. It started with junior Aidan Ezra (New Milford, Conn.) who would score on the power play from junior Michael Novotny (Cornwall, N.Y.). Junior Nick Forgione (Denville, N.J.) would give the Hawks the lead on a goal from junior Colin Reilly (Southington, Conn.). Sophomore Nick Ugolini (Agawam, Mass.) picked up the third goal, while junior Maxton McPhee (Dudley, Mass.) scored the final in the quarter from sophomore Shaun Wright (Frederick, Md.). 
  • Hartford would score the only five goals in the second quarter as the lead hit 9-1. It started as sophomore Gavin Pelletier (Southington, Conn.) finished a goal from Ezra. Reilly followed with a man-up goal from Wright. Novotny scored his first goal of the day to make the lead 7-1. Ezra and Wright would both provide the other scores as the Hawks scored nine-straight to end the first half. 
  • The Hawk run would continue into the third as the Hawks scored the only three goals in the 15 minutes. Pelletier, Forgione and junior Trent Beggs (Somers, Conn.) would score the three as the lead hit 12-1. 
  • UNE would finally end the 12-goal streak getting their second goal of the day. Hartford would respond scoring the final four goals of the game as the Hawks rolled to the 16-2 win. 
Post Game Press:
"It feels great to get a big bounce back win today", junior Aidan Ezra (New Milford, Conn.). "We knew coming in that we needed to respond, and everyone stepped up and played with a ton of energy. Getting the win today was big for us, and it's something we can definitely build on moving forward."

Inside The Numbers:
  • Novotny scored three goals to go with two assists to lead the Hawk attack. Wright also put together five points with a goal and four assists. Ezra and Reilly each netted four points on two goals and two assists. Forgione and Pelletier added two goals a piece. 
  • Sophomore Ian Reynolds (Queensbury, N.Y.) went 10-11 from the face-off circle with four grounders. Junior Ben Costanzo (Chester, Conn.) added a 6-8 day. 
  • Senior Tobias Ballester (Westwood, N.J.) led the team with four caused turnovers to go with three grounders. 
  • Sophomore CJ Ledwick (Falmouth, Mass.) picked up the win making three saves.

The Hawks will host Roger Williams University on Tuesday April 14th with a 7:00 PM start.
